Before using the Kettle & Woodstove Humidifier, it is recommended to season it as with all cast iron products. Doing this twice before using can enhance its performance. Please note that, as many other reviews have mentioned, this product is not suitable for drinking water. The Kettle works as described and can definitely make a difference in the atmosphere. You can even add scents to the water for a more enjoyable experience. The antique look of the product is designed to last for a lifetime. When our wood stove reaches the desired temperature, the water in the kettle lasts for about 3 hours before needing a refill. Like with all pots and pans, it is advisable to only refill with hot water once the Kettle is already hot to avoid warping. The handle of this unit remains touchable even after getting hot, but it is recommended to use a glove to remove the lid for adding water.
